Gourmet Balsamic vinegar is so special in many ways and you will find that there are many reasons to say that the Balsamic vinegar is not like other vinegars and it belongs to a premium class of products. The flavoured balsamic vinegar is the result of a unique way of producing vinegar using the innovative methods using juice of grape pressings unlike in the production of wines. In the present days, the Tebbiano grape (white grape) is pressed to form a mash and this is cooked to get dark syrup. To this mother vinegar is added and this is left in the ageing process under controlled conditions. Hence balsamic vinegar is not a wine.
Balsamic vinegar does not come from Wine but it is made from juice of grape pressings. The gourmet balsamic vinegar is prepared by following the innovative method of grape juice reduction and not through oxidation as the wineries do. So, your favourite flavoured balsamic vinegar comes through the process of balsamic reduction and thus you get the mouth-watering taste and unique flavour from this gourmet vinegar.
Another important thing about the Balsamic Vinegar is that it is not aged like ordinary wine. The manufacturing process for this gourmet vinegar involves a special ageing process by which the vinegar that reaches you is 12 to 100 years old. Perhaps this is one of the reasons for its very high price. During its preparation stages the boiled grape syrup is allowed to thicken and evaporate and moved into smaller barrels of various woods like cherry wood, chestnut, ash etc. This adds the special flavour and complex taste to the Balsamic vinegar.
The cost of Balsamic vinegar is high. Yes, due to the unique ageing process described above, the vinegar that comes to the market is at least 12 years old and it may be even older than that. All these years the vinegar is under meticulous care and the volume of the Balsamic vinegar gets drastically reduced during this long ageing process. Because of all this the price of the flavoured Balsamic vinegar is very high and sometimes it is more than a good bottle of wine.
Beware of fake Balsamic vinegar in the market. If you are the fan of the unique taste and flavour of balsamic vinegar, you must be aware of fake products available in the market labelled as the real balsamic vinegar. These are all cheap wine vinegars with added colours that are made to look like the real gourmet balsamic vinegar. These products do not go through the ageing process for the balsamic reduction and hence will completely lack the real flavour and do not have the benefits of balsamic vinegar.
See where your balsamic vinegar comes from. The real gourmet vinegar comes from Italy that too, especially from Modena or Reggio Emilia and these are the two regions that are well known as traditional centres for the true Balsamic Vinegar. Hence, before buying your gourmet blends and look for their origin. If they are marked as coming from other regions you have to assume they are not the real balsamic vinegar. The right place to buy your gourmet balsamic vinegar is the Olimila Gourmet Emporium and here you can be sure of getting the real aged flavored balsamic vinegar.
